The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the ongoing attacks on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities in parts of the South‑East, specifically in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State and Orsuihiteukwa in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. The pro‑Biafran group also denied issuing any sit‑at‑home order in the South‑East during the election period, urging residents to disregard the rumored directive circulating from the Simon Ekpa faction.
In a statement released on Monday, IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful asserted that the perpetrators targeting INEC facilities are primarily funded and sponsored by unscrupulous politicians seeking to demonise IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The group emphasized that it has no interest in the Nigerian election, stating that its sole demand is a referendum date to determine its political, social and economic future—whether within a united Nigeria or as an independent Biafran nation.
IPOB clarified that neither its members nor ESN operatives instructed any group to attack INEC facilities, nor did it issue any sit‑at‑home order during the election period. The organization warned that anyone linking IPOB to such malicious directives is misinformed. Official IPOB communications are disseminated through its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, or via an official memo signed by the Head of the Directorate of State of IPOB, Mazi Chika Edoziem; any information not originating from these channels should be ignored.
The group urged its supporters not to heed false information that associates IPOB with criminal activities carried out by infiltrators and collaborators. IPOB volunteers and ESN operatives, it warned, will make “Biafraland” uncomfortable for criminal gangs hired to intimidate the movement. It called on Nigerian security agencies, which it claims have been aiding and supporting these politically funded criminals, to stay away, stating that IPOB will “unleash our venom” on those attempting to blackmail the organization.
Finally, IPOB noted that the attacks on INEC facilities do not reflect its stance, as such actions would not advance its struggle. The organization remains committed to seeking Biafran freedom through peaceful means rather than violence, despite what it describes as an enormous task and relentless attempts by its enemies to undermine IPOB and ESN during the election.
