The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Al‑Kanemi, has called on politicians to emulate the “politics without bitterness” approach of the late Waziri Ibrahim, the Second Republic leader and former presidential candidate of the defunct Great Nigeria Peoples Party, as they contest the upcoming elections. He stressed that a “no‑victor, no‑vanquished” relationship should be maintained after the polls to ensure peace and progress for the country.
Speaking from his palace in Maiduguri during a visit from Peoples Democratic Party Borno Central senatorial candidate Jibrin Tatabe, the monarch said, “Whether APC, PDP, or any other party, you are Nigerian politicians working for the peace and progress of the country. You should therefore play politics without bitterness, like the late Waziri Ibrahim.” He also urged the candidate to prioritize employment for Borno’s burgeoning youth population if he wins.
Tatabe, who launched his campaign after paying homage to the Shehu, told reporters that he has always been a staunch advocate of politics without bitterness. “My commitment to politics without bitterness is unshaken,” he affirmed, adding that he rejects any form of confrontation in politics. He outlined his main agenda as creating jobs for the state’s many youths, empowering women and vulnerable groups, and providing education for the large number of out‑of‑school children, should he be elected.
