Labour Party Leadership Under Fire for Alleged Ties to Ruling Party
Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) has come under scrutiny with allegations that its leadership, under Julius Abure, is working to advance the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). These claims, made by the Nigeria Labour Congress Political Commission (NLC-PC), have been vehemently denied by the Labour Party.
Speaking in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, claimed that such narratives are misleading and calculated attempts to tarnish the party’s reputation. The controversy comes after a recent court judgment upheld Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party.
Ifoh emphasized that the Labour Party remains critical of the APC and has not changed its stance. Instead, he pointed fingers at the NLC, stating that it has failed Nigerian workers in many ways. “Nigerian workers are oppressed, the economy is not working, and there are unfair practices against workers,” he said. Ifoh further stressed that the current leadership of the Labour Party is the only voice speaking out for these oppressed workers.
The Labour Party has been winning its court cases, and some have tried to link this success to alleged ties with the ruling party. However, Ifoh disputes this claim, highlighting the party’s achievements under Abure’s leadership and its continued criticism of the government.
The Labour Party’s leadership has come under intense scrutiny in recent times, and these allegations are only adding fuel to the fire. Nevertheless, the party remains committed to its core values and continues to speak out against injustices in Nigeria.
In a bid to set the record straight, Ifoh reaffirmed that the Labour Party, under Abure’s leadership, remains opposed to the APC. He highlighted the party’s unprecedented achievements, further solidifying its stance as an independent entity. As the controversy continues to unfold, the Labour Party’s commitment to representing the interests of Nigerian workers remains unwavering.
