The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) celebrated passengers at several airports—Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport and the General Aviation Terminals in Lagos, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, and Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu—to mark the 2023 Valentine’s Day celebration. The event, held at both the international and domestic terminals of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, was led by Acting General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Faithful Hope‑Ivbaze, and staff from the Corporate Affairs Department.
In a statement, FAAN management said the celebration was part of the agency’s strategy to show appreciation to passengers and to ensure that air travellers receive the utmost respect and comfort. Randomly selected staff and airport workers were approached, given gifts, flowers, and photo opportunities. Hope‑Ivbaze explained, “On Valentine’s Day, love is celebrated worldwide, and FAAN is no exception. We want to use the occasion to share love with our passengers and facility users, letting them know we care about their interests.” She added that beautiful flowers and token gifts were presented to passengers and some clients, and she used the moment to assure travelers of seamless facilitation at FAAN‑managed airports across the country.
Many passengers expressed excitement over the gesture, describing it as a pleasant surprise they had not experienced before. A military officer from Chad, Major Mohammed, said he was thrilled by FAAN’s kindness. Gladys, also from Chad, remarked, “This is a good surprise and Nigeria is a good country. You have a big and beautiful airport. This warm welcome and flowers on Valentine’s Day is the first surprise I have received.” Miss Olamide, traveling to Baghdad, said, “This is my first time experiencing this at the airport. I’m traveling to Baghdad and I really love the flower.” Dr. Shane noted, “FAAN just impressed me. For the first time, I experienced this and it is very special.”
Mr. Idris described the experience as “very nice,” adding, “I’m a frequent traveler, so I know what this means. Connecting with passengers is great.” He praised FAAN’s efforts despite daily challenges, saying, “Celebrating Valentine’s with customers brings joy. It shows you care for the customers.” Chinechere urged FAAN to “keep working hard and keep loving each other.” Finally, Mr. Omodiame Raymond, who had not traveled on Valentine’s Day before, said, “This is my first time. FAAN is introducing new things to the traveling public, and I wish them well.”
