Zamfara Governor approves recruitment of 2,000 teachers

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the recruitment of 2,000 teachers in the state.

The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Gusau.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris on Thursday.

The statement described the recruitment initiative as a fulfillment of promises made during Governor Lawal’s campaign.

The statement emphasized that education remains a top priority for the administration, with significant progress already being recorded.

“Governor Dauda Lawal, in his commitment to revamp education in Zamfara State, declared a state of emergency in the education sector on November 14, 2023,” Idris said.

“The emergency response includes the construction and renovation of more than 400 schools across the 14 local government areas, the provision of 12,000 two-seater desks for pupils, and equipping schools with over 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers.”

Speaking during the council meeting, Governor Lawal reiterated his commitment to improving the quality of education in the state.

“The government will employ 2,000 qualified teachers to help improve and revitalize the education sector,” he said.

The governor explained that the recruitment would be carried out in phases to ensure transparency and the selection of qualified personnel.

“We are starting with the employment of 500 teachers in the first quarter of this year. Emphasis will be placed on critical subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ICT, and Entrepreneurship studies.

“The recruitment is part of the AGILE Program and aims to completely reverse the rot in the education sector and improve the quality of teaching and students in our schools throughout the state,” he added.
