The Senior Pastor of Help from Above Healing and Deliverance Ministry Worldwide, Godwin Ude, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Saturday that only candidates endorsed by God will win the forthcoming general elections. He warned that none of the aspirants for elective offices at any level of government should claim the ability to contest and win without God’s grace. According to Ude, regardless of power, position or money, true leadership comes from God, who knows the hearts of men.

“The only people who will succeed in their political pursuits are those that God has given grace to and is backing,” Ude said. “Irrespective of the money you have or the name you carry, you must lean on God and let Him drive your ambition. If God is not in your political vehicle, the vehicle will crash.” He added that only God knows who will become President, Governor, Senator and other office‑holders, and that any candidate God brings forward is automatically the people’s candidate.

Ude cautioned other spiritual and religious leaders—pastors, imams and the like—not to endorse any candidate based on personal sentiments or beliefs, but to pray for God to raise the right leaders at all levels of government. He emphasized that man cannot choose a leader by human criteria alone; divine grace is required, especially for positions that demand experience. “You don’t choose who is going to govern you; God chooses the person. The proper prayer is that God gives us a leader who can lead us, who can wipe away our tears, and who looks at the heart,” he explained. As a pastor, he said, his daily prayer is that God provide such a leader.

Ude warned that no candidate should boast of personal ability to effect change in Nigeria, as such pride will ultimately lead to failure. He urged Nigerians to prepare to vote in the February 25 polls based on the conviction of the Holy Spirit rather than on a candidate’s status or party strength. He asserted that God does not support those who buy or sell votes or shed blood to win elections. “Let the Holy Spirit lead you,” he said. “Those who collect money to vote have killed their tomorrow. God is not behind those who buy votes or shed blood, nor those who wait for money to vote.”

He advised wise citizens to avoid assuming God’s role by endorsing any candidate, reminding them that God already has His own candidate who will emerge as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ude concluded by urging voters to follow their conscience, vote rightly, and keep their conscience clear, rather than allowing N10,000 or N20,000 to sway them away from God’s guidance. NAN.
