Timeline for ‘blood moon’ lunar eclipse

A total lunar eclipse will occur on March 13–14, 2025, with the moon cast in a deep, coppery-red hue.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when a full moon passes into Earth’s shadow in space.

During the 65 minutes of totality, the full moon will take on a reddish hue caused by sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere, hence the term “blood moon.”

This eclipse will be observable from the Earth’s Western Hemisphere.

The total lunar eclipse will be visible across the Americas, with all U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico having a clear view of the entire event, weather permitting.
