Stock investors lost N281 billion at the end of trading on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) last week. The NGX All‑Share Index and market capitalisation fell by 0.96 % and 0.95 %, closing the week at 53,804.46 and N29.310 trillion respectively. All other indices finished lower, except for the NGX Premium, NGX Insurance, NGX MERI Growth, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Oil and Gas, NGX Industrial Goods and NGX Growth indices, which rose by 0.54 %, 1.18 %, 0.44 %, 0.67 %, 0.91 %, 0.06 % and 7.15 % respectively. The NGX ASeM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices closed flat.

According to the NGX, 36 equities appreciated in price last week, up from 24 in the previous week. Twenty‑seven equities depreciated, down from 45 the week before, while 94 equities remained unchanged, higher than the 88 recorded previously. A total turnover of 751.990 million shares worth N20.575 billion was traded in 15,822 deals, compared with 944.293 million shares valued at N22.710 billion exchanged in 18,615 deals the week before.

The Financial Services industry led activity, accounting for 508.517 million shares valued at N6.212 billion traded in 6,877 deals—representing 67.62 % of total equity turnover volume and 30.19 % of total value. The Consumer Goods sector followed with 86.346 million shares worth N4.806 billion in 2,562 deals, and the Industrial Goods sector ranked third with 34.305 million shares worth N3.635 billion in 1,305 deals.

Trading in the top three equities by volume—Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc and FBN Holdings Plc—accounted for 249.667 million shares worth N3.915 billion in 1,984 deals, contributing 33.20 % of total volume and 19.03 % of total value.

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc listed 2,373,947,500 ordinary shares of 50 kobo each at N1.55 per share on the NGX daily official list. This addition raises Neimeth’s total issued and fully paid‑up shares from 1,899,157,108 to 4,273,104,608 ordinary shares of 50 kobo each.
