The Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund, Dr. Sanusi Ohiare, has announced his intention to contest the Kogi State governorship election. In a letter submitted on Monday to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, which our correspondent obtained, he confirmed that he will collect his nomination form at the APC secretariat in Wuse, Abuja, on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
The Punch previously reported that several candidates have already secured their ₦50 million Kogi governorship forms, including Senator Smart Adeyemi of Kogi‑West, former Lagos State lawmaker James Faleke, Kogi Governor’s Chief of Staff Abdulkarim Asuku, State Auditor General Ahmed Ododo, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Salami Ozigi‑Deedat.
Ohiare explained that his decision to enter the race stems from a deep commitment to serve and to tackle the state’s complex challenges. “Distinguished leaders and members of this esteemed platform, after extensive consultations with individual members, party stakeholders, family and friends, and deep introspection, I hereby formally declare my intention to run for Governor of Kogi State,” he wrote. He added that his candidacy is motivated by a sense of public service and the belief that his diverse experience equips him to address the state’s pressing issues.
He noted that the gubernatorial contest is unusually close, reflecting the hopes and aspirations of many Kogi indigenes who, like millions of Nigerians, face soaring food prices and high unemployment. “I am not just another average politician worried about jobs, safety, and the economy,” Ohiare asserted. “I am an extensively experienced public servant who seeks to shake the tables and get things done, giving us all a seat at the governance table.” He described himself as a hands‑on politician and called on supporters to join him on 21 February 2023 at 10 a.m. at the APC National Secretariat, 40 Blantyre Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, where he will submit his expression of interest and nomination forms.
Ohiare emphasized his determination to adopt a collaborative approach to both his campaign and future governance, citing his track record as evidence. He appealed for unwavering support, stating that the governorship represents everyone on the platform, and thanked supporters for their continued commitment to the party.
