The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) warned that it would be premature to associate the party with a recent Department of State Services (DSS) raid on a private residence in Kano. The operation, carried out on Thursday at a property on Airport Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area, yielded a gun, daggers, swords, knives and other dangerous weapons. While the DSS did not disclose the owner of the building, local sources suggested that the NNPP was using the premises.

The raid has heightened tensions between the DSS and several politicians who have accused the security agency of conducting a witch‑hunt and harassment. DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya refuted these claims, calling the allegations of intimidation false and emphasizing that the operation was intelligence‑driven. He also affirmed the DSS’s readiness for the upcoming Saturday elections.

Reacting to the incident, NNPP PCC Chief Spokesman Ladipo Johnson said it would be “wicked” to link the party to the raid when the DSS had not named it. Johnson expressed suspicion of foul play, stating, “Let’s wait for the DSS to identify the party. How can we tell if this is not an attempt to disparage the party on the eve of a very important election? Do you think some people deliberately placed the weapons there? It is possible. I haven’t heard anything, but we will find out.”
