NECO disowns fake facebook account — Daily Nigerian

A warning has been issued by the National Examinations Council, NECO, regarding a fake Facebook account that has been set up in the name of its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi. The account is allegedly being used to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. This information was made public through a statement released by the Council’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, on Sunday in Abuja.

According to Azeez Sani, the primary goal of the statement is to alert the public to the existence of this fake account. “The Council wishes to draw the attention of the public to the existence of this fake Facebook account in order to avoid being swindled by the fraudsters,” he emphasized. This move is clearly aimed at protecting the public from falling prey to the fraudulent activities being carried out through the fake account.

In a bid to tackle the issue, NECO has taken a proactive step by informing security agents about the fraudulent activity. Mr. Sani noted that the security agents have been notified to take appropriate action against the perpetrators of the act. This collaborative effort between NECO and security agencies underscores the seriousness with which the council views the issue and its commitment to safeguarding the public’s interests.

The creation of fake social media accounts in the names of high-profile individuals or organizations is a growing concern worldwide. Such accounts are often used for malicious purposes, including fraudulent activities and spreading misinformation. NECO’s swift response in this case serves as a model for other organizations in addressing similar issues promptly and effectively.

By disowning the fake Facebook account and warning the public, NECO demonstrates its commitment to transparency and public safety. The council’s actions also highlight the importance of vigilance in the digital age, where social media platforms can be both powerful tools and avenues for fraud. As NECO works with security agents to address this issue, it reminds everyone of the need to be cautious when interacting with online accounts, especially those claiming to represent official bodies or public figures.

In conclusion, the National Examinations Council’s decisive action against the fake Facebook account is a significant step in protecting the public and maintaining the integrity of its online presence. It serves as a reminder to all of the importance of being vigilant online and the need for organizations to be proactive in safeguarding their digital identities and the public’s trust.
