In the early hours of Sunday, gunmen suspected to be herders invaded three communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals. A local resident, who identified himself as Sachir, reported that the attackers targeted Tse Lgar, where eight people were killed. Additionally, three fatalities were recorded at Tse-Magu, and two more at Tse-Dudu in Daudu, all within Guma LGA.
According to Sachir, the herders launched their assault on Tse-Magu, Tse Lgar, and Tse Dudu simultaneously while the residents were asleep. Many were caught off guard, awakened only by the sound of gunfire. In total, the attacks resulted in eight deaths at Tse Lgar, three at Tse-Magu, and two at Tse-Dudu, bringing the overall death toll to 13, with several others reported injured.
Mike Uba, the chairman of the local government, confirmed the attacks through the local government Security Adviser, Christopher Waku. Waku stated, “Yes, some suspected herders, again, early hours of today (Sunday) invaded three villages; Tse-Lgar, Tse-Magu, and Tse Dudu all in the local government and killed 13 people.” He emphasized that the attacks appeared to be unprovoked. However, when contacted for further information, the state command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, indicated that she had not yet received any details regarding the incidents.
