Corps member alive, officers prevented mob attack – FCT police

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has refuted claims that a corps member serving as a polling‑unit agent was lynched by angry voters in Abuja on Saturday. In a statement released on Sunday, the police clarified that the officer seen in a video alongside his colleagues did not tamper with thumb‑printed ballot papers; he was merely assisting officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in salvaging electoral materials.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, emphasized the need to correct the misinformation circulating on social media about the incident. “The FCT Police Command wishes to set the record straight concerning a case of misinformation and disinformation on social media alleging that a police officer was caught with thumb‑printed ballot papers,” she said. “This is not the fact; the officer was only assisting INEC staff to salvage electoral materials after they were attacked by the electorate at the polling unit.”
