The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of Saturday’s general election in Katsina State. The state Returning Officer, Professor Muazu Abubakar Gusau, announced the results early Monday morning at 3:20 a.m. He reported that the total number of registered voters was 3,516,719, while the total number of accredited voters stood at 1,097,663.
Professor Gusau provided the vote counts for each of the eighteen political parties that participated in the election. The results were as follows: A—255, AA—523, AAC—234, ADC—1,405, ADP—1,798, APC—482,283, APGA—1,391, APM—603, APP—269, BP—307, LP—6,376, NNPP—69,386, NRM—1,053, PDP—489,045, PRP—1,986, SDP—339, YPP—1,029, and ZLP—371. The total valid votes amounted to 1,058,673, with 32,514 votes rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 1,091,187.
Additionally, the Returning Officer disclosed that votes were canceled in several parts of the state due to issues such as over-voting, violence, thuggery, and insecurity. The affected areas included Baure (one polling unit), Danmusa (two polling units), Daura (one polling unit), Dutsinma (one polling unit), Funtua (three polling units), Kafur (twelve polling units), Kankara (one polling unit), Katsina (seven polling units), Kurfi (one polling unit), and Kusada (one polling unit). Other affected locations were Maiadua (one polling unit), Malumfashi (ten polling units), Mashi (ten polling units), Sabuwa (one polling unit), and Safana (ten polling units). Professor Gusau stated that the total number of registered voters whose elections were canceled due to these issues was 51,310.
