The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Aliyu Wadada, the candidate from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as the winner of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District election held on Saturday. Wadada is set to succeed Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who vacated his seat in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly after being appointed as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement of the election results took place on Monday in Keffi, the headquarters of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District. The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Nasir Baba, confirmed that Wadada received a total of 96,488 votes, surpassing the APC senatorial candidate, Shehu Tukur, who garnered 47,717 votes.
Prof. Nasir Baba stated, “I, Associate Prof. Nasir Baba, hereby certify that I am the senatorial returning officer for the 2023 Nasarawa West Senatorial District election, held on 25th February, 2023. The election was contested, and the candidates received the following votes: Jatau Justice of the ADC received 1,117 votes; Bala Tongorma of the LP received 33,228 votes; Wakil Kabiru of the NNPP received 2,667 votes; Umar Musa Galadima of the PDP received 46,820 votes; and Jibrin Sani Shehu of the ZLP received 880 votes.
“Aliyu Wadada Ahmed of the SDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the Returning Officer concluded.
