Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has lost the senatorial election to Titus Zam, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Zam, who served as Ortom’s Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs until the governor’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018, garnered 143,151 votes. In contrast, Ortom received 106,882 votes, while Labour Party candidate Mike Gbillah secured 51,950 votes. The results were announced by the returning officer, Professor Rufus Shato, at the senatorial district headquarters in North Bank, Makurdi, where he declared Zam the winner of the election.

In a separate election, Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party successfully won re-election to the Senate. Moro received 76,459 votes, defeating his closest rival, Daniel Onjeh of the APC, who garnered 59,959 votes. Labour Party candidate Joe Ojobo received 40,194 votes. The electoral officer for the Benue South senatorial district, Professor Robert Tee, officially declared Moro the winner of this election.
