The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has emerged victorious in the senatorial election for Yobe North in Yobe State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner with 91,318 votes, defeating his closest rival, Bello Ilu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 22,849 votes. This victory marks Lawan’s return to the National Assembly for the seventh time.
In Edo State, former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole secured the Edo North Senatorial Seat. The INEC’s Returning Officer, Benjamin Adesina, announced that Oshiomhole garnered 107,110 votes, defeating the incumbent, Francis Alimikhena of the PDP, who scored 55,344 votes. In Katsina State, the APC won all three senatorial seats. Abdulaziz, the younger brother of the late President Musa Yar’adua, was declared the winner for Katsina Central with 153,512 votes, narrowly defeating Aminu Sirajo of the PDP, who polled 152,140 votes. In the Daura Senatorial District, incumbent senator Ahmed Babba-Kaita of the PDP lost to Nasir Zangon-Daura of the APC. Meanwhile, in Jigawa Central, the PDP’s Mustafa Habeeb won with 153,731 votes, defeating Sabo Nakudu of the APC, who received 134,802 votes. However, the APC retained the Jigawa North-West and Jigawa North-East seats, won by Babangida Husaini with 187,049 votes and Ahmed Malam-Madori with 136,977 votes, respectively.
In Gombe State, the PDP won two out of three senatorial districts. Ibrahim Dankwambo won Gombe North, while Yaro Anthony-Siyako secured Gombe South, leaving Gombe Central to the APC candidate, Danjuma Goje. In Anambra South, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah retained his seat after scoring 73,115 votes, defeating Chris Azubogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who received 45,369 votes. In Delta North, the PDP’s Ned Nwoko won with 92,514 votes, defeating Labour Party candidate Ken Kanma, who polled 86,121 votes.
In Abia Central, the Labour Party’s Darlington Nwokocha secured victory with 92,116 votes, defeating former PDP National Organising Secretary Col. Austin Akobundu, who garnered 41,477 votes. The PDP’s Khalid Mustapha won the Kaduna North senatorial seat with 250,826 votes, defeating incumbent senator Suleiman Kwari of the APC, who scored 190,008 votes. In Adamawa, Senators Ishaku Abbo and Binos Yaroe were re-elected, with Yaroe receiving 94,828 votes and Abbo polling 71,927 votes. In Adamawa Central, Aminu Iya-Abbas, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, won with 145,880 votes, defeating Senator Abdulaziz Nyako of the APC, who received 118,555 votes.
Senator Barau Jibrin of the APC won the Kano North Senatorial District with 234,652 votes, defeating Dr. Baffa Bichi of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, who garnered 177,014 votes. Senator Godswill Akpabio of the APC won the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District with 115,401 votes, beating PDP’s Emmanuel Enoidem, who received 69,838 votes. Additionally, Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi won the Ebonyi South Senatorial District with 28,378 votes, defeating Labour Party’s Linus Okorie, who scored 25,496 votes, and APGA’s Eleje, who received 11,398 votes. In the Edo South Senatorial District, the Labour Party’s Neda Imasuen won with 167,250 votes.
In Nasarawa State, SDP’s Aliyu Wadada won the Nasarawa West Senatorial District with 96,488 votes, defeating APC candidate Shehu Tukur, who scored 47,717 votes. Former Nasarawa State governor and senator Umaru Al-Makura lost his re-election bid to PDP’s Mohammed Onawo, who received 93,064 votes compared to Al-Makura’s 76,813 votes. In Kano South, NNPP’s Kawu Sumaila won decisively with 319,857 votes, defeating Senator Kabiru Gaya of the APC, who polled 192,518 votes.
Senator Orji Kalu, the Chief Whip of the Senate and APC candidate, won the Abia North Senatorial District with 30,805 votes, defeating his main opponents, Mao Ohuabunwa of the PDP, who received 15,175 votes, and Nnamdi Iroh of the Labour Party, who garnered 25,540 votes. In a notable defeat, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom lost his bid to represent Benue North West in the Senate, falling to APC’s Titus Zam, who received 143,151 votes while Ortom polled 106,882 votes. Meanwhile, Senator Abba Moro of the PDP successfully won his re-election bid for Benue South Senatorial District, polling 76,459 votes to defeat APC’s Daniel Onjeh, who garnered 59,959 votes.
