The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the collation of presidential election results, citing national interest and the need to avoid potential anarchy. The opposition parties described the ongoing collation process as unconstitutional and argued that it should be halted due to compromises in the process and violations of the Electoral Act.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the spokesperson for CUPP and a member-elect, expressed these concerns in a statement titled “Why ongoing collation of presidential election results are unconstitutional and a possible invitation to anarchy that must be averted now by immediate halt.” He alleged that the results being collated were not transmitted directly from polling units but were manipulated by certain rogue governors. Ugochinyere, who represents the Peoples Democratic Party in the House of Representatives for the Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in Imo State, warned that continuing the collation could lead to chaos and potentially incite violence across Nigeria.

He emphasized, “The ongoing collation of presidential election results is unconstitutional and poses a possible invitation to anarchy that must be averted immediately.” As a constitutional lawyer and a prominent advocate for credible elections, Ugochinyere concluded that it is in the national interest to halt the collation of results due to the compromises and violations of Section 64(4) of the Electoral Act. He further stated, “Clearly, the results being collated were not transmitted directly from the polling units but were manipulated by rogue governors, who were also behind the Omuma magic compromise of the voters’ register. This illegality must be stopped before it throws Nigeria into national confusion.”
