Nigerian Dancer Kaffy Speaks Out on Challenges of Dating as a Single Mother

Lagos, Nigeria – Renowned Nigerian professional dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has opened up about her personal struggles with dating as a single mother of two. In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Kaffy shared her experiences and questioned the pervasive stereotype against single mothers and fathers in the dating scene.

Kaffy, 45, recalled a particular instance where a man outrightly disqualified her for dating or marriage simply because she is a single mother. This experience led her to speak out against the negative stereotype that often accompanies single parenthood. She argued that there is no guarantee that single people without children would make better partners in marriage, emphasizing that personal growth and self-improvement are essential qualities in any partner.

The dancer-turned-entrepreneur expressed her concerns, saying, “What makes you think that a woman who has been divorced is not a better candidate if she has worked on herself? What’s the guarantee that two single people today won’t be divorced tomorrow?” Kaffy also questioned the societal pressure to marry someone “fresh,” highlighting the fact that over 70% of marriages end in divorce, regardless of the partners’ previous marital status.

Kaffy’s personal experiences with marriage and divorce have given her a unique perspective on the challenges of dating as a single mother. She married Joseph Ameh, a music director and drummer for the popular Nigerian music group P-Square, in 2015, but the couple divorced in January 2022. Citing individual growth and a lack of destiny alignment as reasons for the split, Kaffy has since focused on her personal development and career.

As a successful entrepreneur and advocate for women’s empowerment, Kaffy’s words carry significant weight, inspiring many single mothers and fathers to reevaluate their own experiences and challenge societal norms. Her message serves as a reminder that personal growth, self-love, and a willingness to learn from past experiences are essential qualities in any partner, regardless of their marital status or family dynamics.

By sharing her story, Kaffy hopes to inspire a shift in the way society views single mothers and fathers, emphasizing the importance of individual growth, self-improvement, and mutual respect in any relationship.
