Nigerian Rapper Naira Marley Calls for Thorough Investigation into Singer Mohbad’s Death
Renowned Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has urged the Lagos State Police Command to intensify its investigation into the death of his former signee, singer Ileriuwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad. In a recent video broadcast on his YouTube channel, Naira Marley called for a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s death, which occurred under controversy on September 12, 2023.
Naira Marley, while maintaining his innocence in Mohbad’s death, asked the police to re-arrest him, his associate Samsan Balogun (also known as Samlarry), and all others accused of involvement in the singer’s death. He emphasized the need for a trustworthy officer to be put in charge of the case. “I came back to Nigeria to support the police because I can see fingers pointing our way. I want to clear my name and ensure justice is served,” Naira Marley stated.
The rapper recounted his experience of being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for two months in 2023, saying, “I was in Panti for two months, and after I came out, I was fighting for my passport. I haven’t seen Mohbad for over a year, but I was accused and detained.” Naira Marley alleged a conspiracy and gang-up against him, referencing a leaked group chat that mentioned the officer in charge of the case.
Mohbad’s death has been shrouded in controversy, with various individuals accused of involvement. Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse who allegedly administered a fatal injection, was arrested and is set to be prosecuted for medical negligence. The Lagos State Coroner’s Court, relying on the testimony of two independent pathologists, concluded that Mohbad’s decomposed state made it impossible to determine the cause of death.
Naira Marley has agreed to give his royalties to Mohbad’s family, as directed by the court. “If you ask me, I will tell the police to arrest everybody again and put an officer we can trust in charge,” he said. The rapper’s call for a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s death has reignited public interest in the case, with many seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s passing.
