Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress Urges Citizens to Participate in Continuous Voter Registration
In a bid to strengthen democratic processes in Nigeria, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on citizens to actively participate in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Danladi Yau, Chairman of the ADC in Gombe State, made this appeal at the conclusion of the party’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Gombe.
Yau emphasized that acquiring a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is a fundamental civic right and responsibility of every Nigerian, as it enables them to participate in electoral processes and contribute to shaping the country’s future. “It is part of our civic rights to acquire PVCs, which will allow us to make democratic decisions that bring about desired change,” he stated.
The ADC chairman specifically encouraged party members to take advantage of the CVR exercise and advised those who have turned 18 years old to register and exercise their right to vote. This move is seen as a crucial step in mobilizing support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
In response to concerns about an alleged faction within the party in Gombe State, Yau reaffirmed his position as the authentic chairman recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stated that any individual claiming to be the chairman is fake and doing so illegally. Yau also clarified that the former chairman, who served from 2011 to 2019, had been expelled from the party in 2022 and therefore had no legitimate claim to the position.
Reiterating his loyalty to the David Mark-led national leadership, Yau urged party members to work together to strengthen the ADC and challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state and nation. The party plans to begin registering new members across the 114 wards in Gombe State, with the aim of mobilizing a significant membership base to contest future elections.
This development underscores the ADC’s commitment to democratic principles and participation in Nigeria’s electoral processes. As the country prepares for future elections, the party’s efforts to mobilize citizens and strengthen its membership base will be crucial in shaping the nation’s democratic trajectory.
