Kenya Cult Deaths: More Bodies Found near Shakahola Forest Grave Sites

Fresh graves unearthed in Kenya near Shakahola cult tragedy

Kenyan Authorities Uncover More Bodies Linked to Doomsday Cult

In a grim discovery, Kenyan authorities have unearthed five more bodies and ten human body parts in the village of Kwa Binzaro, Kilifi County, more than two years after the shocking revelation of over 400 bodies linked to a doomsday cult in nearby Shakahola Forest. The latest findings were confirmed by Pathologist Richard Njoroge during an ongoing exhumation exercise.

The exhumation process, which began with 27 suspected graves, has so far yielded six exhumed graves, with five bodies and ten scattered body parts recovered from the surface. Authorities have indicated that 21 graves remain to be excavated, with the exercise set to continue.

A multidisciplinary team comprising homicide detectives, forensic experts, and government pathologists has been deployed to support the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the newly discovered graves may be connected to one of Kenya’s worst cult-related mass deaths.

The bodies are believed to belong to followers of controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie, who allegedly instructed his followers to starve themselves to death in order to “meet Jesus.” Mackenzie has been arrested, charged with murder, and remains in custody awaiting trial.

As public interest in the case grows, Kilifi County Commissioner Josephat Biwot has urged restraint and accuracy in information sharing. “Please give out the right information. Do not distort it or create unnecessary alarm. Only share the truth of what we’ve found,” he cautioned in Swahili.

The latest discovery has reignited concerns about the influence of cults in Kenya and the need for authorities to take decisive action to prevent such tragedies. The ongoing investigation and exhumation exercise are expected to shed more light on the extent of the cult’s activities and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The incident also highlights the need for responsible reporting and accurate information sharing to avoid spreading unnecessary alarm and misinformation. As the investigation unfolds, authorities have assured the public that they will provide timely updates and accurate information.
