The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its intention to contest votes that were allegedly manipulated, particularly in the Ebonyi South Senatorial District, despite Governor David Umahi’s victory in the polls. Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the state chairman of the party, made this statement on Tuesday while addressing the media regarding the outcomes of the National Assembly elections in the state. He emphasized that the party has made the necessary representations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the votes lost due to alleged opposition manipulations.

Okoro-Emegha illustrated the importance of every vote by comparing it to a child winning a N200 million lottery, arguing that age should not diminish the value of the prize. He stated, “The number of goals scored in a football league is important, despite the garnered points, so we need all our legitimate votes.” He further asserted that the party would not abandon its mandates, particularly in the Afikpo North and South Federal Constituencies, simply because the governor won the senatorial seat.

Expressing confidence in INEC’s ability to address the party’s grievances, Okoro-Emegha noted that the APC possesses sufficient evidence to support its claims of manipulation by the opposition. He remarked, “This is a transition period, and all political parties have the liberty of pursuing their rights concerning the elections.” He reiterated that the party has credible evidence of electoral manipulations and is optimistic that its concerns will be addressed fairly.

While the party seeks redress, Okoro-Emegha emphasized that it would do so through legitimate means and would not resort to unruly behavior. He acknowledged the governor’s leadership and commitment to peaceful conduct, stating that their peaceful approach should not be misconstrued as weakness. He concluded by thanking the party’s supporters, who voted in large numbers, assuring them that all manipulated votes would be retrieved.
