The Nigerian government has pledged more than N90 billion to support the education of 400,000 students in the country’s tertiary institutions. This commitment is part of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative launched by President Bola Tinubu, according to Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris. NELFUND is designed to enable Nigerian students to pursue higher education without financial constraints, thereby easing the burden on parents and guardians.

Minister Idris explained that the N90 billion allocation covers not only school fees but also the upkeep of beneficiaries across various tertiary institutions. He reiterated President Tinubu’s vision that no Nigerian child should be denied access to tertiary education because of financial difficulties. The initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to promote holistic development, prosperity, and well‑being for all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation or religious background.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to serving all citizens beyond party lines, the minister highlighted the importance of NELFUND for the education and future of Nigerian children. He also noted the establishment of a Cancer Screening and Treatment Centre/Oncology facility, which will benefit individuals affected by cancer.

Overall, the NELFUND initiative represents a significant investment in Nigeria’s education sector, demonstrating the government’s dedication to supporting the nation’s youth. By increasing access to higher education and reducing financial barriers, the program is expected to have a positive impact on both the education system and the lives of Nigerian students.
