2027: I don't want to jump from frying pan to fire - Ndume speaks on joining coalition

Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement Special Priority Projects in Nigeria’s Northeast. His appeal follows a recent visit by Northeast governors to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they discussed the region’s development needs.

Ndume urged the President to incorporate these projects into the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal. He argued that such funding would address the significant social and infrastructural challenges that have been worsened by years of terrorism. Although terrorist activity has declined, the Northeast still suffers from a lack of meaningful infrastructural development, with little progress made over the past 15 years.

The Senator emphasized that the current administration must prioritize the region’s urgent infrastructural needs in the upcoming budgets. He highlighted the devastating impact of insurgency, which has hindered development and left the Northeast facing considerable social and infrastructural deficits.

The governors’ visit to the President could provide an opportunity to discuss the implementation of these priority projects. Including them in the budgets would represent a crucial step toward addressing the Northeast’s infrastructural needs and promoting its overall development. As the government prepares the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal, the inclusion of Special Priority Projects would demonstrate a commitment to tackling the region’s challenges and fostering growth. Further discussions between the government and regional stakeholders are expected to determine the specifics of the projects and their implementation.
