The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected accusations from former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuywal that the party is trying to destabilise the opposition. In a statement released by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party said President Bola Tinubu and the APC are focused on governance and have no time to interfere with opposition parties.
Tambuwal had previously claimed that the APC and President Tinubu were plotting to undermine opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Morka countered that Tambuwal and other opposition leaders have offered no evidence to support these allegations, describing their actions as political blackmail and an obsession with power. He further argued that opposition figures such as Tambuwal, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El‑Rufai, Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi have failed to provide effective leadership for their parties, which he said are rudderless and weakened by internal contradictions.
According to Morka, these leaders have resorted to making baseless predictions about the 2027 elections, predictions he believes will ultimately lead to their defeat at the polls. The APC’s response comes amid ongoing tensions between the ruling party and opposition groups in Nigeria, as the 2027 elections are expected to be highly contested and parties and candidates are already positioning themselves for the upcoming vote.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the APC and opposition parties will navigate the challenges ahead. The party’s denial of any attempts to destabilise the opposition highlights the ongoing power struggles within Nigeria’s political sphere. With the 2027 elections looming, the APC’s focus on governance and leadership will likely face increased scrutiny, and the actions and statements of key political figures will be closely watched by Nigerians and the international community alike.
