Qatar slams ‘reckless’ Netanyahu 9/11 comparison — RT World News

Qatar’s foreign ministry condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s justification of the missile strike on Doha, calling it a “shameful attempt” to legitimize the attack. Netanyahu had likened the strike to the United States’ response to the 9/11 attacks, arguing that governments cannot harbor terrorists. Qatar rejected this comparison as false, noting that the Hamas office in Doha was part of Qatar’s mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel, a role requested by the United States and Israel.

The missile strike, which killed several Hamas officials and a Qatari security guard, has drawn widespread condemnation. Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, described the attack as a violation of international law and the UN Charter, saying it undermines attempts to reach a peaceful settlement in the region. Lavrov also criticized Israel’s “unwillingness to end the humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, especially given Qatar’s key mediating role.

Since the Gaza war began, Qatar has played a central part in mediating between Hamas and Israel. Its foreign ministry emphasized that Netanyahu is fully aware of these mediation efforts and that his comparison with the U.S. response to 9/11 is a “miserable justification” for Israel’s actions. The ministry added that no international mediation involving an al‑Qaeda negotiating delegation exists for Washington to engage with in pursuit of peace.

The attack on Doha has sparked condemnation from many countries, which have called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The international community urges all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate the situation and to engage in meaningful dialogue to achieve a lasting solution. As events unfold, Qatar’s foreign ministry reiterated its commitment to mediation, stressing the need for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
