The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, warned that the party must resolve its internal disputes and unite, or risk jeopardising its chances in the 2027 presidential election. He delivered this caution at the PDP National Restoration Movement National Summit in Abuja, where party leaders stressed the need for reconciliation and unity among members.

Ajibade argued that a united party is essential for presenting a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He warned that unresolved disputes could resurface before the 2027 election, further weakening the PDP’s position. To illustrate the stakes, he highlighted the party’s past achievements—stabilising democracy, attracting foreign investment, and implementing reforms in telecommunications, banking and pensions during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.

Emphasising that “a house divided against itself cannot stand” and “a divided PDP cannot win elections,” Ajibade called for sacrifice and for members to prioritise the country’s interests over personal ambitions. He noted that ambition is not inherently problematic, but becomes destructive when it threatens the party’s core values and existence.

The warning comes as the PDP seeks to regain power in the 2027 presidential election. With internal crises ongoing, Ajibade’s message underscores the importance of unity and reconciliation for electoral success. The party’s ability to settle its disputes and present a united front will be crucial in determining its prospects, and it remains to be seen whether its leaders will heed this call or allow divisions to continue hindering progress.
