The Nigeria Customs Service announced on its official social media platform on Saturday that Comptroller Adebola Salawu has been appointed head of the Lagos Industrial Area Command, succeeding Comptroller Sarah Wadinda, who recently retired after a distinguished career.
During her tenure, Comptroller Wadinda oversaw several notable achievements, most prominently the Customs Cares project at Festac Senior Grammar School. Through collaboration with stakeholders, the project provided the school with a water‑treatment plant, an e‑library, a photocopier and refurbished toilet facilities. The handover ceremony took place at the Command’s headquarters in Festac Town, as confirmed in a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Juliana Tomo.
In her farewell remarks, Wadinda thanked Comptroller‑General Adewale Adeniyi for entrusting her with the Command’s leadership and urged officers to give their full support to her successor. Comptroller Salawu praised Wadinda’s accomplishments and pledged to build on them, assuring officers and stakeholders of her commitment to improving excise operations.
Salawu emphasized the importance of cooperation, urging officers to adopt the newly launched Unified Customs Management System and stressing the need for in‑house training and stakeholder engagement to boost excise performance and contribute to national economic growth. Her appointment is expected to bring fresh leadership and direction to the Lagos Industrial Area Command, building on the foundation laid by her predecessor.
The Nigeria Customs Service plays a crucial role in facilitating international trade and generating revenue for the country. The new head of the Lagos Industrial Area Command is poised to enhance excise operations and strengthen the Command’s contribution to the national economy, consolidating past achievements while exploring new opportunities for growth and development.
