The 2025 Southern Summit of former legislators opened on Saturday in Ogun State, Nigeria, gathering notable figures from the nation’s political landscape. Held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, the event is themed “National Unity: Bedrock of Nation Building.” It was convened by Olufemi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and has attracted a host of prominent attendees, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Senator Ajibola Bashiru, former Senate Leader Victor Ndoma Egba, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Speaker Oludaisi Elemide.

In his opening remarks, Rahpeal Nnanna Igbokwe, the National Coordinator of the National Forum of Former Legislators, highlighted the summit’s role in promoting peace, unity, and prosperity across the country. He urged greater cooperation between state and federal governments, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to address Nigeria’s national challenges.

The summit provides a platform for former lawmakers to reunite, network, and discuss critical issues affecting the nation. As a body, the National Forum of Former Legislators is committed to advancing peace, unity, and democracy in Nigeria. By bringing together these key political stakeholders, the gathering underscores the importance of national unity in nation‑building and is poised to generate meaningful outcomes that will contribute to the country’s growth and prosperity.
