University Vice Chancellor assumes duty in Zamfara State

The Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, in Zamfara State, Nigeria, has officially commenced operations with the inauguration of its pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu-Yakasai. The ceremony, held at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the institution.

During the event, Governor Dauda Lawal, represented by the Head of Service, Yakubu Sani-Haidara, expressed his delight at the university’s establishment, highlighting its potential to benefit the people of Tsafe through human capital development and advanced healthcare training. The governor also acknowledged the efforts of Zamfara Central representatives at the National Assembly in championing the project.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, represented by the Minister of State, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmed, congratulated Prof. Adamu-Yakasai on his appointment, describing the university as a transformative project for Tsafe. The minister expressed optimism that the institution would serve as a center of excellence and a hub for community development, driving education, healthcare, and regional innovation.

The creation of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology is seen as a strategic move to drive regional development, balance the geographical spread of higher institutions, and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. As the first university of its kind in Northern Nigeria, it aims to integrate medicine and technology to foster innovation and healthcare advancement.

Prof. Adamu-Yakasai, a renowned gynaecologist and President of the West African College of Surgeons, brings decades of academic and professional experience to his new role. He has pledged to dedicate himself to building a solid foundation for the university, with his foremost mission being to make Tsafe safe and conducive for learning. The pioneer management team includes Hamisu Yusuf Yalwa as Registrar, Sanusi Usman Naktsalle as Bursar, and Dr. Aminu Shehu Liman as Librarian.

The establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, is expected to have a significant impact on the region, providing access to quality education and healthcare services.
