The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully conducted its ward congresses across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State, Nigeria. The exercise, which took place on Saturday, saw the election of new executives and delegates by party members.
A significant turnout was observed in several wards, including Gwangwadija in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area and Sauwa in Argungu Local Government Area, where over 500 people reportedly participated. The leader of the Ward Congress Election Committee from the PDP national headquarters, Bello Goronyo, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise. Goronyo, who also serves as the chairman of the party in Sokoto State, commended the security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a smooth process.
The conduct of the ward congresses is a crucial step in the party’s internal democratic process, allowing members to elect their representatives and shape the party’s direction. The PDP remains a major opposition force in Nigeria, and the successful conduct of the ward congresses in Kebbi State is seen as a testament to the party’s strength and acceptance in the region.
According to Sani Dododo, the Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress in Kebbi State and publicity secretary of the party, the large turnout demonstrates the unity and resilience of the party in the state. “The turnout was a clear demonstration of the determination of our members and a sign that the party remains strong in the state,” he said.
The successful conduct of the ward congresses in Kebbi State is a positive development for the PDP, which has been working to strengthen its structures and prepare for future elections.
