Coalition: ADC presents membership cards to David Mark, Aregbesola

In a significant development ahead of the 2027 general elections, more than 200 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gubuchi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The defections were formalized on Monday, adding to the ADC’s growing momentum as a platform for opposition leaders.

This latest wave follows a broader trend that began when a coalition of opposition figures adopted the ADC as their vehicle for the upcoming election. The ruling party, as well as other major parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), have also experienced a series of defections to the ADC. Notable opposition leaders, including former governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Nasir El‑Rufai of Kaduna State, have been at the forefront of welcoming defectors into the party.

In a related development, at least 10,000 members of the PDP, APC and other parties defected to the ADC in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday. This mass defection underscores the growing appeal of the ADC as a viable alternative for voters dissatisfied with the current political landscape.

The ADC’s rising profile is likely to continue shaping the electoral environment as the 2027 general elections approach. The recent defections highlight the dynamic nature of Nigeria’s political environment, where alliances and party affiliations can shift significantly in the run‑up to major elections. As the country prepares for the polls, the APC, PDP and other parties will need to reassess their strategies to retain and attract supporters, while the ADC seeks to build on its momentum and establish itself as a formidable force in Nigerian politics. With the elections still ahead, the political scene remains poised for further developments as parties and candidates jockey for position.
