The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed confidence in President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s ability to enhance the country’s education sector. Tinubu was declared the President-Elect on Wednesday after receiving 8,794,726 votes in the recent presidential election. His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, garnered 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi received 6,101,533 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso obtained 1,496,687 votes.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope, NANS emphasized its belief in Tinubu’s potential to improve education, making it more affordable and accessible for all Nigerians. The student body also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct during the presidential election. They praised President Muhammadu Buhari for refraining from interfering in the electoral process, which contributed to a credible outcome.
The statement highlighted, “As an association, we commend the Independent National Electoral Commission for the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded election, which led to the emergence and declaration of the APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the winner.” It further noted the importance of President Buhari’s decision to allow a credible electoral process without undue interference, reinforcing the principle of free choice, a cornerstone of democracy.
NANS believes that Tinubu has the capability to bring about significant improvements in the education sector. However, the association urged all Nigerians to remain calm and to avoid engaging in activities that could threaten the peace currently enjoyed in the country.
