The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, stressed that outstanding performance must be rewarded while negligence of duty should be addressed in the education sector. He made this directive during the 2025 Best Teachers Award Ceremony, organized by the State Science and Technical Education Board at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, State Secretariat, in Dutse. Governor Namadi described the ceremony as a significant initiative for promoting quality teaching and learning in the state’s schools. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating excellence in teaching, noting that it is essential to acknowledge and reward those who excel while also confronting poor performance.
The Governor called on other education bodies, including the Senior Secondary School Management Board and the Islamic Education Bureau, to introduce similar award schemes to motivate teachers across all sectors. He commended the Science and Technical Schools Board for organizing the event, underscoring that excellence in teaching is critical to achieving quality education. Governor Namadi also stressed that infrastructure alone is insufficient for educational development; competent and motivated teachers are essential.
To address this, the state government has begun recruiting teachers at all levels to reduce the student‑teacher ratio in schools. Additionally, it is investing in the training and retraining of teachers to keep them abreast of new ideas and developments in the education sector. The Governor assured continued government commitment to supporting education, promising sustained investment in both human capital and infrastructure development. This initiative is expected to positively impact Jigawa State’s education system by promoting quality teaching and learning and ultimately improving educational outcomes for students.
