PDP Leader Demands Apology from President Tinubu

Rivers: Tinubu must apologise for suspending Fubara – PDP

The Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Timothy Osadolor, has called on President Bola Tinubu to apologize for suspending Governor Siminilayi Fubara of Rivers State. Osadolor’s statement came in response to President Tinubu’s decision to declare an emergency rule in the state.

According to Osadolor, President Tinubu exceeded his constitutional powers by suspending the governor. The deputy youth leader made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja, emphasizing that the president’s action undermines the principle of separation of powers in Nigeria’s democratic system. He expressed concern that this move sets a dangerous precedent for the country’s governance.

Osadolor criticized the president’s approach, stating that his speech, particularly the last paragraph, was overly authoritarian. He suggested that President Tinubu should acknowledge the division of powers between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. By doing so, Osadolor believes the president would demonstrate a better understanding of the constitutional limits of his office.

The suspension of Governor Fubara has significant implications for the political landscape in Nigeria. The declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State has raised concerns about the potential erosion of democratic institutions and the rule of law. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the presidency and the affected state government will navigate this constitutional crisis.

The Peoples Democratic Party has been vocal in its opposition to the president’s decision, citing concerns about the potential for abuse of power and the undermining of democratic principles. The party’s stance reflects the broader debate about the limits of executive authority and the need to uphold the constitution in Nigeria. As the country’s political leaders grapple with these issues, the international community will be watching closely to see how the situation is resolved.
