PDP Vows Discipline Ahead of Congresses in Kebbi State

Kebbi PDP Vows To Sanction Members Sabotaging Upcoming Congresses • Channels Television

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has announced plans to take disciplinary action against members allegedly undermining its upcoming congresses. The party’s Legal Adviser, Mr Nura Bello, disclosed this information while addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. According to Bello, the party has already set up a Disciplinary Committee at the national level to address anti-party activities and sabotage attempts.

The congresses, scheduled for September 20 and 27, have been the subject of some controversy, with a court order circulating on social media on September 18. The order reportedly directed the suspension of congresses in Kano and Kebbi States. However, Bello explained that the party swiftly engaged legal counsel to challenge the order, which was subsequently vacated by the judge due to misrepresentation of facts and lack of jurisdiction.

Bello noted that the plaintiffs who initiated the court action were PDP members in the state, and that such jurisdictional matters should have been handled at the state High Court rather than being escalated. He expressed disappointment that internal party matters were taken to court, emphasizing that Kano was not even among the states scheduled to hold congresses on the said dates.

Despite these challenges, Bello reaffirmed that the congresses would proceed as planned on September 20 and 27. He urged all party members to participate in large numbers, underscoring the importance of the congresses for the party’s internal democratic processes. The party’s decision to take disciplinary action against errant members is seen as a measure to maintain order and discipline within its ranks.

The PDP’s upcoming congresses are part of the party’s internal processes to elect new leaders and reaffirm its commitment to democratic principles. As the party prepares for the congresses, it is expected to reinforce its commitment to internal democracy and party discipline. With the court order vacated and the disciplinary committee in place, the party is poised to move forward with its congresses, despite attempts to undermine its efforts.
