Airports in Copenhagen and Oslo have resumed operations after unidentified drones were spotted in their airspace, causing flight diversions and disruptions. Police reported that several large drones hovered over Copenhagen Airport for several hours late on Monday before flying away on their own. Deputy Police Inspector Jakob Hansen said the drones have now disappeared and the airport is open again, with police cooperating with the Danish military and intelligence service to determine their origin.

In Oslo, drone sightings also forced the airport to close for several hours. Spokeswoman Monica Fasting said there were two separate sightings, and the airport reopened around 3:15 a.m. local time. During the closures, flights were diverted to nearby destinations, and officials at both airports expect some delays and disruptions to continue.

The incidents come after recent allegations by the governments of Poland, Estonia and Romania that Russia violated their airspace, claims that Moscow has denied. When asked whether the drones above Copenhagen could have originated from Russia, Hansen replied that the origin is currently unknown.

The closures and subsequent reopenings have resulted in travel disruptions, with some flights still experiencing delays. Authorities are investigating the source of the drones and working to prevent similar incidents in the future. Cooperation between police and military agencies in Denmark and Norway highlights the importance of addressing such security threats.

As the situation unfolds, airports and airlines are taking precautions to minimize the impact of potential drone sightings on air travel. The European aviation sector has faced several drone‑related disruptions in recent years, underscoring the need for effective mitigation measures. With investigations ongoing, the international community is closely monitoring the Copenhagen and Oslo incidents to ensure the safety and security of air travel.
