ADC asks Atiku, others to register as membership registration begins

The Adamawa State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a membership registration drive, urging prominent individuals associated with the party to register formally. State chairman Shehu Yohanna announced that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Lawal Babachir are among those expected to complete the process.

Speaking at the party’s state headquarters in Yola, Yohanna stressed that registration is essential for legitimate participation in party activities. He explained that only members who are duly registered and possess a membership card can exercise influence within the ADC. Yohanna expressed optimism about the party’s potential, citing its coalition structure as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

Founded in 2002, the ADC aims to become a leading political force in Adamawa State. Yohanna called on all coalition partners and stakeholders to take part in the fresh registration of party membership, noting that even high‑profile coalition leaders such as Atiku and Babachir must register in their respective wards to be recognised as bona fide members with a voice in the party.

The registration drive is viewed as a crucial step in strengthening the ADC’s structure and preparing it for future elections. Together with its coalition partners, the party seeks to offer a viable alternative to the current political landscape in Nigeria. Yohanna’s statement underscores the ADC’s commitment to democratic principles and its desire to provide a platform for Nigerians to engage in the political process.

As the drive continues, the ADC is expected to deepen its grassroots presence and build a stronger foundation for future political endeavors. These efforts to increase membership and engage stakeholders are likely to have significant implications for the political landscape in Adamawa State and beyond.
