APC: North-Central demands position of National Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State is confident it can regain power in the 2027 general elections. Party chairman Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, represented by Publicity Secretary Yusuf Idris Gusau, made the assertion at a meeting welcoming back Ahmad Sharu Anka. Anka, a former two‑time local government chairman and Commissioner for Lands, had previously been at odds with the party leadership but has now reconciled.

Danfulani attributed the APC’s loss in the 2023 governorship election to internal divisions rather than the strength of the opposition. He said the party has learned from that experience, resolved its internal disagreements, and united under the leadership of Senator Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle. Zamfara State remains an APC stronghold, and the recent dissolution of factions is expected to improve the party’s electoral prospects.

During the meeting, Anka announced his departure from the faction loyal to House of Representatives member Aminu Sani Jaji and his decision to join the Yari‑Matawalle camp. He pledged to work toward party unity, emphasizing his commitment as a grassroots politician to restore the APC’s lost power in 2027.

The reconciliation and renewed unity within the APC in Zamfara are seen as crucial steps toward regaining power. With internal conflicts reportedly resolved, the party is poised to leverage its strong presence in the state for electoral success. Anka’s move to align with Yari and Matawalle is expected to boost the APC’s chances, given his experience and influence at the grassroots level. As the political landscape evolves, the APC’s strategy and cohesion in strongholds like Zamfara will be closely watched ahead of the 2027 elections.
