The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has re‑elected its chairman, Usman Bello‑Suru, along with other executive members, to lead the party for the next four years. The state congress, attended by delegates from all 21 local government areas (LGAs), used a secret ballot system in the presence of party stakeholders and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mukhtar Lugga, chairman of the State Delegates’ Congress, described the election process as transparent, credible and fair. He noted that the exercise was conducted peacefully and in full compliance with the law, resulting in the election of 38 additional executive officers by delegates across the 21 LGAs. Lugga commended the delegates for their patience and commitment to the party.
In his acceptance speech, Bello‑Suru thanked party members for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to strengthen the PDP in Kebbi. He emphasized the need to work together to reposition the party, reconcile aggrieved members, and restore the PDP’s prominent position in Kebbi politics.
Former PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, Aminu Bande, congratulated the new executives and urged them to promote party unity. He advised the leadership to build bridges, include everyone, and prepare the PDP for future victories. Board of Trustees member Benjamin Dike noted that the successful congress demonstrates the party’s strength and unity despite past internal crises.
The re‑elected executives include Hussaini Abdullahi‑Raha as Deputy Chairman, Abubakar Bawa‑Kalgo as Secretary, and Vice Chairmen for Kebbi Central, Kebbi South and Kebbi North. Additional positions such as Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary and Organising Secretary were also filled.
The congress outcome is significant, reflecting delegates’ trust in the newly elected executives. The PDP’s ability to conduct a peaceful and transparent election process is a positive step toward regaining influence in Kebbi politics. As the party moves forward, it is likely to focus on rebuilding and strengthening its structure, with the ultimate goal of achieving success in future elections.
