Chief Aribogha Johnny, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State and the Koromotiemowei of Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom, officially announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday. This move came just hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC as the winner of the 2023 presidential election. In a signed statement, Johnny explained that his decision was influenced not only by the recent electoral outcome but also by the marginalization and disregard he had experienced within the PDP over the years.
Johnny expressed that he had remained loyal to the PDP until the party leadership began to treat him as a “low class member,” despite his significant contributions to the party’s successes at the state level in previous years. He stated, “As such, I have decided to move to a party where my efforts in the politics of the state and beyond will be recognized and appreciated.”
The APC leadership in Delta, including Elder Godsday Orubebe, the Director General of the party’s governorship campaign council, and Chief Bosin Ebikeme, the director of the party’s contact and mobilization campaign council, welcomed Johnny and his supporters with enthusiasm. They expressed their satisfaction with his decision, asserting that it was a step in the right direction. The APC leaders emphasized that Johnny would be regarded as a bona fide member of the party and would be included in the decision-making processes moving forward.
