The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has witnessed a significant development, as the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has disputed the announcement made by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, regarding the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom state Executive Committee (EXCO) of the party. On Wednesday, Ologunagba issued a statement announcing the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom EXCO and the subsequent formation of a 31-member caretaker committee, headed by Barrister Igwat Umoren, to serve for three months pending new state congresses.
However, Senator Anyanwu has countered this statement, describing it as null and void. In a statement addressed to the State Chairman, Anyanwu clarified that there was no formal sitting of the National Working Committee (NWC) where such a decision was taken. He emphasized that it is not within the official capacity and duties of the National Publicity Secretary to implement decisions of the NWC. As a result, the purported press release is deemed null and void, and the state working committee of the PDP in Akwa Ibom state remains intact.
The PDP’s National Working Committee is responsible for making key decisions regarding the party’s operations and structure. In this instance, Senator Anyanwu has reassured the State Chairman that the existing EXCO should continue with their duties as outlined in the PDP constitution, 2017 as amended. This development highlights the importance of adhering to established protocols and procedures within the party’s governance structure.
The dispute over the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom state EXCO has significant implications for the party’s operations in the state. As the PDP navigates this internal issue, it is essential to ensure that all actions align with the party’s constitution and established decision-making processes. The next steps in this matter will be closely watched, as the party works to resolve the dispute and maintain stability in its Akwa Ibom state chapter.
