The University of Alabama football team, now led by Kalen DeBoer, has rebounded from its opening‑season loss to Florida State and currently sits at 3‑1. After a 31‑17 defeat in Week 1, the Crimson Tide has won every subsequent game, highlighted by a recent 24‑21 victory over the University of Georgia. That win propelled Alabama back into the No. 10 spot in the latest AP Poll, while Florida State—after falling 46‑38 to the University of Virginia in double overtime—dropped to No. 18.
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum commented on the shifting perceptions of both programs. He noted that Florida State’s Week 1 win over Alabama no longer looks as impressive given the Tide’s resurgence, emphasizing that the Alabama team that lost to Florida State is markedly different from the one that has been competing in recent weeks. Finebaum also pointed out the disparity between losing to Virginia and losing to Georgia, suggesting the latter loss would have been more significant.
Alabama’s initial loss to Florida State caused a steep ranking drop, from No. 8 to No. 21, marking the program’s lowest AP ranking since 2008. However, the victory over Georgia has restored momentum, and DeBoer has now improved his record against Kirby Smart to 2‑0. Finebaum praised the performance, calling the win “monumental” for both the school and DeBoer.
Looking ahead, the Crimson Tide will travel to face Vanderbilt, led by Diego Pavia, in an effort to avoid an upset. Alabama’s continued success will depend on maintaining its current level of play and steering clear of setbacks. As the season progresses, the team’s rankings and reputation will be closely watched, with upcoming games serving as crucial indicators of its playoff potential.
