Tunji Odeyemi Elected Ekiti PDP Chairman

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected a new chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, a former Acting Governor of the state. Odeyemi’s election took place during the state congress held in Ado-Ekiti, where over 1,000 delegates from the 16 local government areas participated.

According to the election results, Odeyemi secured 936 votes, defeating his challenger, Sunday Olowolafe, a former state legal officer of the party, who garnered 290 votes. In his acceptance speech, Odeyemi expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for their support, promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.

Odeyemi emphasized the need for unity, discipline, and loyalty to the party’s ideals, stressing that the PDP must put behind its past divisions and focus on providing good governance to the people of Ekiti. He noted that the state is in dire need of rescue from maladministration, poverty, and neglect, and that the PDP must rise to this challenge.

As the new chairman, Odeyemi pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration, with a focus on strengthening grassroots structures, empirical youth and women empowerment, and internal democracy. He also promised to maintain an open-door policy, where all voices are heard and valued.

Odeyemi’s election is significant, as it comes ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State. The PDP is seeking to reclaim its position as a major political force in the state, and Odeyemi’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in this effort. With his experience as a former Acting Governor, Odeyemi is well-placed to provide the leadership needed to reposition the PDP for success in the upcoming election.

The new chairman has called on all party members to close ranks and work together to restore prosperity, dignity, and hope to the people of Ekiti. As the PDP gears up for the 2026 election, Odeyemi’s leadership will be closely watched, and his ability to unify the party and provide effective governance will be crucial to the PDP’s chances of success.
