The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, has honored outstanding journalists at its 2025 annual press week award and dinner night, tagged “Asale Asa: Journaliganza.” Gift Oba, a correspondent for Media Talk Africa in Ogun State, and Kazeem Olowe of Television Continental (TVC), emerged as the best print/online/broadcast journalists of the year.

The award, presented on Friday, recognized Oba’s in-depth reports, including “Overcrowded, overlooked: Inside Ogun Correctional Centre crisis” and “How house agents milk ‘house hunters’ dry in Ogun.” These investigative pieces showcased exceptional journalism skills, according to the council.

The event featured a fashion parade with traditional attires styled by the Egbaliganza, which added a unique cultural element to the ceremony. In his remarks, NUJ Chairman Akinwale Olarenwaju emphasized that the awards acknowledged the dedication and exceptional skills of journalists in the state. He expressed gratitude to the state government, dignitaries, and council members for their support, pledging that the council would continue to grow and promote quality journalism.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu. Other notable journalists honored at the event included Doyin Lasisi of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Yemi Dalemo of the Nigerian Television Authority, and Ayo Oluwunmi of the Ogun State Television.

The awards served as a testament to the council’s commitment to recognizing and promoting excellence in journalism.
