FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino honored with Global Citizen Award

FIFA President Gianni Infantino received the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award in New York, honoring his commitment to global leadership and positive change. The award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to promoting unity and development across international borders. Infantino’s efforts to globalize football—particularly his focus on talent development and expanding access to the sport worldwide—were highlighted. He noted that FIFA invests 100 % of its revenues in developing the game globally, creating opportunities for children in 211 countries and fostering dreams and hope among young girls and boys, which aligns with the organization’s core mission.

The Global Citizen Awards, now in their 14th edition, also recognized French President Emmanuel Macron and Argentine President Javier Milei for their contributions to global citizenship. Past recipients include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The Atlantic Council created the award to honor individuals who embody the spirit of global citizenship through leadership, vision, and impact across international communities. The ceremony in New York served as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional global leadership.

The Council’s recognition of Infantino underscores football’s role as a unifying force that promotes development and positive change worldwide. As FIFA continues to invest in the sport’s global development, its efforts are likely to leave a lasting impact on communities around the world. The Global Citizen Award’s emphasis on leadership and citizenship highlights the importance of international cooperation and collaboration. By honoring those committed to positive change, the award fosters a culture of global responsibility and unity—an increasingly vital need as the world becomes more interconnected.
