The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the alleged certificate forgery by Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji. Investigative reports claim that the documents submitted by the minister during his screening were falsified, asserting that he never received a certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka—an institution he presented as his alma mater. According to these reports, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disowned the certificates the minister used for his appointment.

In a statement, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the government’s silence on the matter signals a tolerance for corruption. The party expressed no surprise at President Bola Tinubu’s decision to retain the minister despite the allegations and questioned why the administration has taken no action. By failing to act, the ADC argues, the government appears complicit in the alleged fraud and undermines its own anti‑corruption stance.

The opposition party called for the minister’s immediate suspension pending a full, independent investigation. If found guilty, the ADC recommends that he be dismissed and prosecuted for forgery and perjury. The allegations have raised concerns about the government’s commitment to combating corruption and highlighted the need for greater accountability and transparency in public office.

The incident also prompts scrutiny of Nigeria’s verification processes for public officials and the potential consequences of falsifying documents, as the nation watches to see how the government will respond and whether the minister will face any repercussions.
