APC good at deceiving people, manipulating figures - Afenifere leader

Oba Oladipo Olaitan, the leader of the Yoruba socio‑cultural organization Afenifere, has sharply criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria. Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Olaitan accused the APC of deceiving the public and manipulating figures, arguing that the party’s primary aim is to conceal problems and distort facts.

Olaitan expressed concern for the nation’s safety, alleging that the previous administration facilitated the influx of foreign nationals—specifically Fulanis—to influence Nigerian politics. He questioned the motives of those who would resort to such extremes to gain power, suggesting that their actions are driven by a ruthless desire to rule at any cost.

The Afenifere leader also referenced the current President’s campaign rhetoric, noting the President’s claim that “it was his turn to lead the country.” Olaitan interpreted this statement as indicative of a mindset that places personal ambition above the nation’s well‑being.

These criticisms arise amid ongoing political tensions, with the APC facing accusations of electoral manipulation and suppression of opposition. Afenifere has long advocated for the rights and interests of the Yoruba people, one of Nigeria’s largest ethnic groups. As the country navigates its complex political landscape, Olaitan’s remarks underscore the demand for greater transparency and accountability in governance. While the APC’s response has not been reported, its actions will likely remain under close scrutiny by Nigerians and international observers, as debates over Nigeria’s political future continue and various stakeholders push for reforms and broader representation.
