Zamfara PDP Candidate Defects to APC Over Insecurity

Lagos LG poll: Tension in Yaba APC as stakeholders call for fresh primary

In a significant development, Muhammad Lawal Kurya, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Kaura Namoda South in the last Zamfara State House of Assembly election, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection was announced on Saturday during a political gathering at the Taula Arena in Gusau, organised by Yazeed Shehu Danfulani Projects.

This move comes months after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APC’s! Kamilu Sa’idu the winner of the August supplementary election for the Kaura Namoda South constituency. Kurya’s decision to leave the PDP is reportedly driven by his dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of insecurity in the state. He accused Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration of failing to tackle the issue, which he claims has worsened under the present government.

Kurya stated that his decision to join the APC is motivated by the need to support efforts by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to restore peace and stability in Zamfara. The former PDP candidate urged his supporters to rally behind the APC, expressing confidence that the party is better positioned to address the state’s security and developmental challenges.

The defection of Kurya to the APC may have significant implications for the political landscape of Zamfara State. As the state continues to grapple with security concerns, the move may be seen as a strategic attempt to bolster support for the APC’s efforts to restore stability in the region. With the APC already having a strong presence in the state, Kurya’s defection may further solidify the party’s position.

The development is also likely to be closely watched by political observers, given the ongoing dynamics in Zamfara State’s politics. As the state navigates its security and developmental challenges, the role of political parties and their leaders will be crucial in shaping the state’s future. With Kurya’s defection to the APC, the party may be poised to play an even more significant role in addressing the state’s pressing issues.
